An elected Dutton Liberal Government will commit $500,000 over three years to an Afghan Women’s Multicultural Hub – a safe and welcoming space for local Afghan women and families in Western Sydney – to be established by Afghan Women on The Move.

This initiative is designed to empower women by offering tailored support services that address their unique needs, including employment pathways, social cohesion activities, mental health support, and case management services.

Liberal candidate for Parramatta, Katie Mullens, said Afghan Women on The Move have already done much to strengthen the communities of Western Sydney.

“This commitment will be an important next step in ensuring our growing Afghan community, and particularly our Afghan women, can deepen their engagement with the broader community in a safe environment,” Ms Mullens said.

“I am pleased to support this commitment which will bring Parramatta closer together.”

Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, Melissa McIntosh MP, praised Katie Mullens for her advocacy on behalf of Western Sydney women who have been made vulnerable by circumstances outside of their control.

“Katie is a fierce advocate for her community and I have seen first-hand her preparedness to fight for the services and supports which will make a practical difference to the lives of women here in Western Sydney,” Mrs McIntosh said.

This commitment is part of the Liberals’ plan to celebrate and strengthen our multicultural communities and get our country back on track.

Shadow Minister for Community Safety, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, Jason Wood, said the Afghan Women’s Multicultural Hub is a powerful initiative by the Afghan Women on The Move.

“It offers a safe, empowering space where Afghan women and families can access the support they need to thrive—socially, emotionally, and economically,” Mr Wood said.

“This Hub will deliver culturally sensitive, women-centred services from mental health and trauma recovery to employment pathways and community connection.”

“I strongly support this initiative, given that it is not just an investment in services—it's an investment in empowerment, safety, and the rich potential of multicultural Australia."
