CONSTRUCTION STARTS ON SYDNEY MODERN
- NSW drivers can now use a Digital Driver’s Licence (DDL) on their smartphone for proof of identity and at roadside police checks.
- The NSW Government announced the statewide rollout following successful trials in Dubbo, Albury, and Sydney’s Eastern Beaches.
- More than 550,000 people have already downloaded the DDL, with 97% giving it the thumbs up.
- For more information about how to recognise and accept the DDL, visit https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/digital-driver-licence.
SCHOOL PILOT PROJECTS TO IMPROVE CAREER PATHWAYS FOR NSW STUDENTS
- High Schools in South West Sydney and on the North Coast will be the first in NSW to participate in a $10 million pilot program transforming students and parents think about career pathways.
- 10 different initiatives grouped under the Educational Pathways Pilot program will be trialled in areas that experience higher levels of youth unemployment.
- It is aimed at ensuring students choose the subjects that will put them on the right career path.
- The Educational Pilot Pathways initiatives helps young people get support to find suitable pathways into work, particularly in drought-affected regions.
CASH INJECTION FOR YOUTH PROJECTS
- Projects promoting life skills, positive mental health initiatives and employment outcomes are among successful recipients of the NSW Government’s $1.5 million Youth Opportunities program.
- 36 innovative projects driven by young people would receive up to $50,000 each.
- All organisations funded under the program cover all corners of NSW in the areas of education, arts, culture and health.
- More than half of the successful projects stem from regional and rural NSW.
- Since the NSW Government established the Program in 2012, almost $12 million has been invested in more than 280 projects.
MANDATORY DISEASE TESTING
- People who bite or otherwise expose police and other frontline workers to a risk of disease could be subject to mandatory testing to provide peace of mind.
- The scheme will allow authorities to test a person for diseases if a frontline worker risks being exposed to a blood-borne virus such as HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C.
- Anyone who refuses to comply with a mandatory testing order will be committing an offence.
HAVE YOUR SAY ON GREAT WESTERN HIGHWAY
- The community will help shape plans for the $2.5 billion duplication of the Great Western Highway between Katoomba and Lithgow.
- This will deliver a safer, and faster route over the Blue Mountains.
- The upgrade would reduce travel times and congestion along the 34 kilometre route.
- The project was in the early stages of planning and design, with construction expected to commence in 2021 and to be completed in 2028.
- Community consultation commenced on Thursday, 7th November and will close at 5pm on Monday, 16th December.
CONSTRUCTION STARTS ON SYDNEY MODERN
- Construction works on the Sydney Modern Project have commenced.
- This will be an expansion that almost doubles the Art Gallery of NSW’s space, enabling more of our State’s art collection to go on show, as well as hosting more exhibitions from around Australia and the world.
