Leslie Williams seeks to continue fighting for Port Macquarie
Leslie Williams MP has been endorsed as the Liberal candidate for Port Macquarie.
Leslie has lived in Lake Cathie with her husband Don since moving to the region in 1996 to take over the local Post Office. A former teacher and CEO of the Sudden Infant Death Association before she moved to Port Macquarie, Leslie has always been passionate about helping people. Leslie then went on to study and train as a registered nurse and then worked at Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
“After almost 12 years in Parliament I am still energised by our wonderful community, and am committed to spending every single day serving their needs,” Mrs Williams said.
“Having run a small business and raised two children in this area gave me a really strong understanding of the issues facing local families.”
Since being elected as the Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie has been fighting hard for the people of the electorate from Harrington to Telegraph Point and from King Creek to Lord Howe Island to make sure that the Government is looking after the needs of these communities and delivering the services and infrastructure that they deserve.
“One of my proudest moments was turning the sod to commence construction of the long awaited Lake Cathie Public School in 2014 which was my initial motivation for entering politics.
Since then, I have successfully advocated for ongoing upgrades to the Port Macquarie Base Hospital, the redevelopment of Hastings Secondary College, the new Stingray Creek Bridge, a dementia village for Port Macquarie, the Harrington-Coopernook overpass and the Camden Haven HealthOne. Upgrades to sporting precincts across the electorate as well as new facilities for community groups including the new Hastings Men’s Shed and Arts and Crafts facility will all make a difference to people’s lives.
There is always more to do and that’s why I’m committed to further multi-million dollar upgrades to the Hospital, major improvements to the Oxley Highway between Wrights Road and Lake Road as well as the completion of the new Police Station and the PCYC for Port Macquarie.
“If elected, I will continue fighting for local small businesses and families, to ensure that the Government provides the necessary support for those struggling with the current economic challenges and the impact of natural disasters that this region has endured.”
Despite a busy schedule representing her community in the Parliament, Leslie continues to be actively involved in many community organisations including Rotary, the Hastings Business Women's Network, Bravehearts and the CWA, as well as being an avid fundraiser for a range of charities.
