Households Should Brace for Bigger Bills
Households should brace for bigger bills as the new financial year ushers in higher taxes and increases in electricity prices, courtesy of the Albanese Government.
Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy Ted O’Brien warned Australians that tougher times lay ahead.
“From the 1st of July, cost-of-living pressures are set to bite deeper into family budgets as Labor’s higher electricity bills take effect," Mr O'Brien said.
"Australians will be paying some of the highest electricity prices in the world as new default market offers lead to electricity prices increasing by up to 28.9 percent or an additional $564 a year."
“Australians will be paying the highest power prices they’ve ever seen, as they cross fingers in the hope that their lights will stay on and their homes will stay heated throughout winter."
“This is a direct consequence of Labor’s policies.”
“Adding insult to injury, Labor has decided that now is also the time to introduce a new tax.”
Labor’s carbon tax also comes into force today which will see Australia’s largest industrial companies paying one of the world’s most punitive carbon taxes, putting upward pressure on prices economy wide.
“Everything from fertiliser to food, from concrete to aluminium, will be impacted by this new tax,” Mr O’Brien said.
“It’s a slap in the face to hardworking Australians who were promised a $275 reduction in their energy bills and guaranteed that ‘nobody would be left behind’ by an Albanese Labor government.”
“Good riddance to the financial year that’s just been, but Australian families ought to brace themselves because an even tougher year lies ahead. It will be another year of Labor, another year of financial pain.”
